I can be reached via e-mail as johnnyroy at johnrofrano dot com. Johnny Roy
was my stage name for the 10 years that I played live 5 nights a week in a
rock band (circa 1970-1980). My uncle Jimmy Rofrano (who's real name was
Vincent James Rofrano) played guitar in Al
Goodman's orchestra and took the name Jimmy Roy. He died before he could see
me play professionally so I took the stage name Johnny Roy in his honor. |
Home pages, what a concept.
Why do people have home pages? Why do I have a home page? I guess this is the new way to get your 15 minutes of fame, one nanosecond at a time. Perhaps because its free from your ISP so
you feel compelled to use it. Like a coupon for "buy one get one free". You use it to buy something you really don't need just because you get one for free. Now you have two things you really don't need,
but you saved money and so somehow you feel good about it. Hmmm... It's pretty obvious where this web
site is going...
The picture above is what I look like today. I don't feel much different from when I was 25 and performing in a
progressive rock band. Well... actually... I have more patience now
then I did before, but I still think of myself as the same person. I read somewhere that a man goes through mid life crisis when he finally realizes he's not 25 anymore. So I guess I am still 25. ;-)
(no crisis here)
I'm not a philosopher, although you couldn't tell from my web site. I'm just your average singer, songwriter, musician, turned computer scientist.
It was an interesting combination 20 years ago when I first turned from music to computers but now every musician is getting computer savvy. I just took the next logical step from writing songs to writing programs.
Not that different really. verses and choruses become main programs and subroutines. Just a switch from one highly competitive, creative environment to another.
Computer programming, like song writing, is more of an art than a science. If you don't believe me, try teaching someone without rhythm to play an instrument, or some without logic to program. You just can't do it.
Oh sure, you can teach anyone to read music, but can you teach them to "riff" if they don't have it in them? Just like you can teach anyone the syntax of a programming language but not every programmer can
design an application.
This web site, like my life, is a work in progress. I hope for it to become a
small collection of my works. It currently contains tutorials and tips and
techniques on Video Editing, Music, and 3D Modeling.
